![]() My mother was from Hollis, Oklahoma, in the southwest corner of the state, just north of the Texas Panhandle, which was also the hometown of Darrell Royal, the football coach at the University of Texas for many years. My dad was in the retail butane/ propane gas business there with my grandfather, his father. I remember my mother's coming home in an ambulance. ![]() All the kids were born by Cesarean section because my older sister had been born 2 months premature (she weighed 3 or 4 lb). My first recollection of Baylor Hospital was in June 1953, when I came to Dallas to pick up my younger brother, Jim, who also was born at Florence Nightingale. Thus, I was born at Baylor Hospital, probably <200″ from where my office is today. On my office wall are my footprints and my birth certificate from the Florence Nightingale Hospital dated Novem(Figure (Figure2 2). ![]() ![]() John Flake Anderson, MD (hereafter, JFA): People ask me how long I've been around Baylor. Anderson became a member of the board of stewardship trustees for Catholic Health Initiatives, the country's fifth-largest health care system in addition, he serves on the board of Catholic Healthcare Federation. He continues his private practice on a limited basis. In July 2002, his role was expanded to become the chief medical officer for BUMC. In July 1995, he assumed his current role as the senior vice president for clinical integration, taking overall responsibility for coordination of clinical and medical staff affairs across the system.
